Teams like the Pittsburgh Steelers and Tamp Bay Buccaneers are starting to see a big climb in the power rankings around the nation. What is the similarity between the two teams? They both have veteran quarterbacks that want to prove to people that they still have something left in the tank. Although one can make the argument that Tom Brady and Ben Roethliseberger have both seen regression in their arm strength, the ability to lead their team to victory is still very much present.
However, the young quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson still want to prove that they are the new faces of this league. Who will reign supreme in the Week 8 edition of The Rocky and Meisty Show power rankings?
1. Kansas City Chiefs
High: 1
Low: 2
Last Week: 1
The Denver Broncos looked to be in a battle with the Chiefs last week early in the game, but ironically enough, it was the Kansas City defense that swung the momentum of the game. The Broncos were only down by four and had the ball before starting safety Daniel Sorensen brought back a Drew Lock interception 50 yards for the score. The Chiefs would cruise to a 43-16 victory from there, which helps them maintain the top spot in the power rankings.
2. Green Bay Packers
High: 2
Low: 4
Last Week: 5
Aaron Rodgers loves to prove people wrong. Following his worst performance of the season against Tampa Bay, Rodgers picked up right where he left off the week before, going 23-for-34 with 283 yards and four touchdowns, without throwing an interception.
3. Pittsburgh Steelers
High: 3
Low: 6
Last Week: 7
The Pittsburgh Steelers are the only remaining undefeated team in football, and this can largely be attributed to that front seven, which is arguably the best single unit in the NFL. Although Ben Roethlisberger has suffered from a drop in his average depth-of-target and has struggled to move the ball down the field, a flurry of big-time throws can still be seen from him. This equation is enough to consider the Steelers legitimate contenders.
4. Baltimore Ravens
High: 3
Low: 5
Last Week: 4
The Ravens are going to look a little different after the bye week following the trade for Defensive End Yonnick Ngakoue and the acquisition of Wide Receiver Dez Bryant. Baltimore is going to need all the help they can get in their most important game of the season thus far against the Steelers.
5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
High: 1
Low: 6
Last Week: 6
Even at 43 years-old, the argument can be made that Tom Brady is performing at a higher level than 95% of quarterbacks in the league. He leads the NFL in big-time throws this year, falls in at sixth in passing yards, and second in passing touchdowns.
6. Seattle Seahawks
High: 2
Low: 7
Last Week: 2
Seattle has been featured in a lot of close games this year, but they reigned victories in all five of them. That all came to an end on Sunday night in one of the best games of the season so far, as they were defeated in overtime by the division-rival Arizona Cardinals. Whether that result says more about the Cardinals or the Seahawks can be argued, but they certainly have to take some sort of a dip after suffering their first loss of the season.
7. Tennessee Titans
High: 6
Low: 9
Last Week: 3
The Titans lost the game on Sunday, but they nearly completed a 20-point comeback against one of the best defenses in football. This offense looked sharp in the second half, but their schedule is about to get a little more difficult. After their match-up with the Bengals next week, the combined record of their five following opponents totals 23-9.
8. Arizona Cardinals
High: 7
Low: 9
Last Week: 10
The Arizona Cardinals are one of the best up-and-coming teams in football, and Kyler Murray has made his way onto the MVP radar according to many. This might be an overreaction to one victory, but the young quarterback certainly looks to have a bright future ahead of him.
9. New Orleans Saints
High: 8
Low: 11
Last Week: 8
The Saints barely squeezed by the Panthers last week, but Drew Brees' performance over the last few games has been very encouraging. Even without Michael Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders last week, Brees found ways to spread the ball around to seven different receivers, only throwing seven incompletions and not committing a single turnover.
10. Los Angeles Rams
High: 10
Low: 13
Last Week: 13
The Rams snagged their first victory outside of the NFC East on Monday night, defeating the Chicago Bears 24-10. Aaron Donald has been an absolute nightmare for offensive linemen, as he pressured Nicke Foles ten times on Monday night, which lead all defenders in Week 8. The Rams defense held the Bears running game to just 2.9 yards-per-carry.
