Briefly In-Depth

Let’s kick off our Weekend Edition by taking a look at the Boston Celtics as they faced off against the Orlando Magic for the first of the two teams they would play this weekend. Both of these teams went in shorthanded, but only Orlando left with a 30 point loss that night, while the Celtics had to wait for their 30 point loss which they received on Sunday against the Knicks. The Magic didn’t have an easy weekend because after that tough loss on the road to Boston, they headed to Brooklyn to play the Nets with a debuting James Harden, who had 32 points 14 assists and 12 rebounds, and he almost received a quadruple double because he was 1 turnover short of 10. Now touching back on the Knicks, Friday night they shared the court with the Cleveland Cavaliers who was able to pull through an impressive win with Andre Drummond going for 33 points and 23 rebounds. The Mavericks or shall I say Luka Dončic had a rough weekend first facing Milwaukee and then Chicago. Although Luka dropped back to back triple doubles, his team does not seem like it can be a supporting cast that can help them become a play-off contender. I would keep my eyes on that and expect some upcoming trades for Dallas. Now heading to the Bulls, before they closed out Dallas on Sunday, they took on OKC on Friday night. Now most predictions had Oklahoma City tanking this season with the departure of All-Star Chris Paul, but the Thunder have held there own in a highly contested Western Conference. Friday night they showed up against the Bulls, and were able to put Chicago back in the losing column. Heading to the other coast, the Lakers only had one game this weekend and it was against the Pelicans. The game started off with New Orleans taking a big lead in the first half, but the veteran Lakers came back with a 31-8 run late in the second and into the third quarter which gave them a commanding win. The Clippers played outstanding in their two game trip, first against Sacramento and then against Indiana, both games Los Angels took the W with a 30+ point win. Philadelphia who started this season with an incredible 9-4 record, took a Loss against the Memphis Grizzlies Saturday night with Ja Morant finally back in the line-up after missing a few weeks due to an ankle injury. The Houston Rockets still finding their rhythm with the recent loss of James Harden, as well as being shorthanded due to Covid were able to keep the game close against a Spurs team with a winning record, although ultimately they lost. The Blazers were able to beat out the Hawks with Damian Lillard continuing his insane scoring streak dropping 36 points for a W. And lastly, the highly anticipated playoff re-match between the Denver Nuggets and the Utah Jazz took place on Sunday night, and as usual Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic had 65 points combined but it fell short with the Utah showing there depth with 4 out of there 5 starters dropping double digit points, and Jordan Clarkson having 23 off the bench.
