Briefly in-Depth

The week was closed out nicely in the NBA, although a few games were canceled due to Covid protocols, such as the Wednesday night games between: Utah Jazz and the Washington Wizards, Orlando Magic and the Boston Celtics, and the Atlanta Hawks against the Phoenix Suns. NBA fans are on the edge of their seats after the four team blockbuster trade which saw James Harden join Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant in Brooklyn. So let’s start off with Milwaukee Bucks facing the Detroit Pistons, Giannis dropped a 22 point triple double too narrowly close out the Pistons by a nine point victory. Swinging over to New York the Nets faced off against the Knicks, and as predicted a shorthanded Nets took the W against a Knicks team that hasn’t been good in living memory. Moving down south, Memphis made easy work of the Timberwolves even though the Grizzlies star Ja Morant has been out injured for a few weeks. The Los Angeles Lakers blew the Oklahoma City Thunder out of the water with a near 30 point win with almost every starter on Lakers in double digit scoring and couple of bench players as well. Zion Williamson and Lonzo Ball were both absent from the Pelicans line-up against the Clippers, but even with the loss of two starting players the Clips were only barley able to squeeze out a five point win. Up in Portland, Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum combined for 68 points and 23 assists against Sacramento and closed out a high scoring game with the win at 132-126. The Hornets played back to back games and lost both. First against the Mavericks, Luka Donćic dropped 34 points 13 rebounds and 9 assists for a near triple double. Thursday the Hornets were missing their star Gordon Hayward when they faced off against the Raptors and it took its toll with another loss. The 76er’s handed Miami an L with Ben Simmons showing up with a lazy triple double having 10 points 10 rebounds and 12 assists. The Warriors faced off against a red hot Denver Nuggets and even with Curry dropping 35 they couldn’t come away with the win. And lastly the Houston Rockets played their first game without James Harden against San Antonio, and it very well seems that Harden was the problem, because with his absence Christian Wood amongst other players stepped up to the plate and brought the win back to Houston. This has been the end of the weeks Briefly In-Depth Check back in Monday for our Weekend Edition
