Briefly In Depth - The Weeks Conclusion

On Wednesday night the Atlanta Hawks faced off against the Dallas Mavericks and this game went down to the wire. The Mavs, after gaining a slight lead, were able to hold on to it, with Luka Donćic cashing in another triple double with 28 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists to close out the Hawks, 118-117. Ball movement. That was the deciding factor in the matchup between the Charolette Hornets and the Memphis Grizzlies. While the Hornets had only 23 team assists, the Grizzlies had 34, and this led to Memphis winning the game 130-114. Kawhi Leonard dropped 36 points on Wednesday night as the Los Angeles Clippers took on the Minnesota Timberwolves. While the Wolves played well as they have all season, they could not stop the shorthanded Clippers, who were missing Paul George, from winning the game, 119-112. The Chicago Bulls Played the New Orleans Pelicans, and this game showed why Zach Levine should be an All-Star. He dropped 46 points and 9 three pointer, to stop the trio of Lonzo Ball, Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram from winning the game after the combined for 71 points. The Bulls won 129-116. The Denver Nuggets didn’t have an overtly great game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, but then again they didn’t need to. Simply put Nikola Jokić only had 12 points on the game but the Nuggets won the game by 38 points, 133-95. Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 47 points in the Wednesday night matchup against the Phoenix Suns and this game was a nail biter. Devin Booker and Chris Paul combined for 58 points and forced Giannis to take an off balance shot to win the game, which he missed, leaving the Suns victorious, 125-124. This is the second game in a row with Anthony Davis being absent from the Lakers line-up, and it’s the third game in a row where the Lakers went into overtime. This time Los Angeles was down three with 10 second to go against the Oklahoma City Thunder, and LeBron James hit the three pointer to tie it up and send it into OT. Once there the Lakers took control and won the game 114-113, putting the Lakers on a 6 game winning streak. The Toronto Raptors played extremely good team ball on Wednesday to blow out the Washington Wizards 137-115. While having multiple players scoring double digits, they could not keep that same energy going into Thursdays matchup against the Boston Celtics. The Celtics played good all around ball, but especially dominating the glass, having 49 rebounds to Toronto’s 32. Toronto lost that game 120-106. The Indiana Pacers also went 50/50, after losing Wednesday night 104-94 against the Brooklyn Nets who are still missing Kevin Durant. The Pacers went on to win their Thursday night game against the Detroit Pistons 111-95. The Miami Heat took on the Houston Rockets and while it was a tight game all the way through, Jimmy Butler dropped a triple double with 27 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists to take the win over a solid Rockets team, 101-94. Stephen Curry had another 40 points night with 10 three pointers. He is officially a candidate for the MVP this season, playing incredible after returning from an injury last season. His performance helped his team make easy work of the Orlando Magic, as they closed them out 111-105. The Philadelphia 76er’s who have been playing great all season, lost last night to the Portland Trailblazer 118-114. Carmelo Anthony had 17 points in the 4th quarter, plus hitting the game winner as he is about to move up another wrung on the all time scoring list, cementing him as one of the greatest of all time.
